Vacations and Diabetes
I really need a vacation, and once again i have left it a little too late.
No problemss though, as, thank god, I am not a big fan of hot weather, so leaving it late suits me fine.
So, after thinking it through, i decided to visit portugal, or specifically, the algarve.
Portugal is one of my favourite vacation desitinations, the portuguese are extremely warm people, but not quite as explosive as other latin types. Dining out in any portuguese region is a rewarding experience, and costs are low compared to other destinations.
Easy choice, then - portugal is where i am going..
Checking out all the 'algarve villa' websites in the search engine results, I discovered one site offering algarve villas that seemed better than the others. a site called 'villa retreats'. What makes them different, is that they do not just offer normal villa rental service, but also a number of extra services that made them stand out from the crowd. They offer a villa price match promise, a 'hand-picked' villa promise (ie, they check them all personally), a flight booking service, a car hire service, 24 hour support number and a pre-booking service that can provide me with a personal chauffeur, a personal chef, babysitters etc
These aren't really need for me but knowing they are there really helped me make up my mind.
I still have to choose the resort though, Almancil, Vale do garrao, Santa barbara de nexe and Alvor all have their good points, ah well, some more browsing required before deciding i guess.
The next problem, is how to manage my diabetes when on vacation.
I always take a thermally insulated pack for my insulin, maybe not necessary at this time of year, but I wise precaution I think.
Also, I take a copy of my prescription - Portuguese pharmacies are pretty good, and having a copy of my prescription might help in an emergecny.
I guess I should also take out the normal medical insurance as well - best be ont he safe side :)
